A Daisy Arthur Mystery
by Liesa Malik
Opening her door after midnight launches widow and retired special education teacher, Daisy Arthur, into her second murder mystery in less than a year. She meets Brian Hughes, boyfriend to former student Ginny Caerphilly, as he stands in her front yard covered in blood and talks about “Mississippi” being asleep in the bathroom of the supermarket where the two developmentally delayed people work. Time to call in Ginny’s dad, Gabe Caerphilly, also Daisy’s knight in shining armor and police lieutenant for Littleton’s finest. They return to the store and find Cissy, Brian’s advocate, in a large pool of blood, murdered. The victim was a self-proclaimed vegetarian who replaced meat with healthier potato chips and ice cream.
Throughout this adventure, Daisy realizes that putting limits on one’s own lifestyle can be challenging as she becomes caught up in a smorgasbord of romantic encounters, one of which may just be the death of her. Daisy becomes closer friends with a man at the dog park, draws verbal swords with a possible mobster, and even captures the attention of a charismatic man from the grocery business.
Just when Daisy figures out Cissy’s secret and reason for being murdered, there is another knock at her door. This time, will she be the “Mississippi” river of blood in this tale of too much?
Sliced Vegetarian is the second in a cozy mystery series set in Littleton, Colorado. Readers may enjoy revisiting several friends from Faith on the Rocks, as Daisy stumbles through to find out who killed Cissy in this cozy.
